The struggle of women to obtain rights, especially political rights, to be recognized as Mexican citizens, dates back to the end of the 19th century, when some demanded greater participation in the public sphere. The public and the private are representations of society, in the first the activities of Citizenship take place. The principles of equality and freedom were designed for individuals Citizens -heads of families-owners, men, adults. Those who did not meet these biological and social characteristics were excluded from participating in the public sphere and from dominating in the private sphere. The public space or sphere has been identified as the place of work that generates income, collective action, power; while the private sphere refers to the private world, to the domestic sphere, to unpaid work. The first has been the fundamental responsibility of men and the second of women.References
