Abstract

This paper deals with the importance of recognizing aural perception as a fundamental element of analysis within urban studies. It is a tour that shows how the sound has accompanied the human being throughout history, from the first inhabitants of the caves to the inhabitant of the contemporary city. Using both historical and technical elements, taking a walk through art or ecology, the reader will recognize a new way of listening to their surroundings and discovering a world of auditory possibilities, which in the world's big cities can be both delightful and a torment.Offering this analysis, on the importance of raising awareness of the sound perception of the city inhabitant, means a first step to conceive sound as a material for the production of urban space.
