Abstract

On February 5, 2017, the Political Constitution of Mexico City was published in the Official Gazette, a symbolically relevant event loaded with a long political and cultural history to which this issue of the Anuario de Espacios Urbanos (AEU) dedicates a dossier. special. In this framework, the coordination of the AEU presents the meeting held with Enrique Ortiz Flores, a participant in the drafting group of the Constitution and, mainly, a reference in habitat issues in Mexico, Latin America and the world. [Brief profile of the CPCM] Enrique is an architect from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, his career stands out for a permanent fight for socio-spatial justice from various spaces such as civil organization, academia and public service. He was the founder and director of the Housing and Population Operational Center (Copevi), a reference in non-governmental organizations on habitat and housing in Mexico for more than 40 years; collaborated in the Secretariat of Human Settlements and Public Works (SAHOP) and in the National Fund for Popular Housing (Fonhapo). He has also been part of the Habitat International Coalition since its inception and is responsible for the founding of the regional office for Latin America. Among the recognitions he has received are the 2014 National Architecture Award, granted by the National Association of Engineers and Architects of Mexico; in 2017 he was honored by the Human Rights Commission of the Federal District; and in 2020 he received the "Popular Habitat" award from the Pan-American Federation of Architects Associations. We also send greetings and recognition to all who are and have been part of the International Coalition for Habitat, Latin America, for their work and fight for habitat rights and social justice.

Professor Francisco Javier De La Torre Galindo has a PhD in Urbanism from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM); Master in Urban Planning and Territories (with a focus on public space), and in Humanities and Social Sciences (with a mention in Urban Planning and Planning) from the Institute of Urban Planning of Paris of the University of Paris; Architect by the University of Guadalajara. He is currently a member of the National System of Researchers of the National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt) (Level I) and collaborator of the University Program of Metropolitan Studies. With the support of Conacyt, in 2018-2019 he carried out a postdoctoral stay in the Doctorate in Sciences and Arts for Design of the Xochimilco Unit of the UAM, from which his research has been conducted on three thematic axes: urban inequality ; urban policy and planning; citizen participation and mobilization. He is part of the Editorial Committee of the magazine Anuario de Espacios Urbanos, Historia, Cultura y Diseño, edited by the Urban Studies Area of ​​the Azcapotzalco Unit of the UAM.

Doctor María Esther Sánchez Martínez was born with a degree in Industrial Design from the Azcapotzalco Unit. from the UAM, he studied Philosophy at the UNAM, Master's and Doctorate in Design in the line of Urban Studies. She is a full-time professor at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Unidad Azcapotzalco and is attached to the Urban Studies Area in the Division of Sciences and Arts for Design. She is currently head of the Urban Studies Area and editor of the Urban Spaces Yearbook. His lines of research are urban history and the cartography and history of Mexico City.
