Tap-Tap and moto-taxis in Haiti:
transport and ways of life in precariousness

Most public transportation in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, could be considered informal. Both the private trucks known as Tap-Tap and the moto-taxis solve almost all of the daily commutes of the inhabitants. The lack of official statistics on the number of units, as well as irregularities in terms of vehicle registration and the frequency of accidents make it difficult to understand the quality of public transport service and the risks that it represents in terms of urban health and protection of the life of the passengers. This ethnographic study combines a series of experiences, observations and official data to analyze the mobility of Port-au-Prince from the theoretical references of urban health and the precariousness of life.References
