Abstract

The news that the telephone could connect the offices with the residences to speed up the sending of orders, was one of the arguments used for the authorities of Mexico City to accept the installation of a telephone network, although this would lead to a conflict. with the foreign company responsible for carrying it out, since it was reluctant to do it according to the urban guidelines of the politicians of the capital, that is, to assemble it with underground tubes. The company's reasoning was based on the adverse humidity conditions of the lake basin in which the city was located. Here begins the story of two dissociations: that of a city built on a lagoon and that of a technology that is not viable due to humidity.
