The relevance of artistic production in the urban landscape

Abstract

The situation that reflects the work of art as a fundamental object of characterization of the metropolis, is a reality that should not escape the investigations that inspire the urban-architectural; we can point out, then, that aesthetics nurtures concerns towards the experience of making architecture and making city; likewise, we can assimilate that the new contributions that attend to the fragmented, obsolete or ruinous urban landscape transcend towards artistic production and its theoretical basis. To highlight the way in which artists show a fascination for the landscapes of otherness; for territories where waste is raw material, object of inspiration or support for the work of art itself; interstices where undoing (destroying) is privileged over the convention of building. In contemporary art, the city and its interstices are Augé "artists have an undeniable need for [the city and its] ruins as an invitation to the experience of time".
