A tribute to a legacy or urban knowledge: Cities magazine

Abstract

One of the most relevant urban projects, which emerged in the late 1980´s, was the birth of the National Urban Research Network and its corresponding publication: the Ciudades magazine. In a period that oscillates between 1989 and 2018, 120 issues were produces that included topics on the city and others that arose from the seminars and works carried out by associated members interested in the city. Adhering to the call that invites that analysis of the exploration and direction of urban studies, this contribution reflects the impact that this project had in the academic field of México and Latin America. The conditions in which it arose, its form of organization and operation, the theoretical breaks with which the problems of the city were analyzed int this period and concludes with some self-critical reflections on the causes that led the closure of the magazine at the end of 2018.
