Abstract

The authors, specialists in issues related to the population and problems of the city make contributions to the actual situations, their academic work is reflected in the substantial contributions. It is a bibliographical work of great relevance, since in the publication important elements can be found for the application of the sustainable systems to the cities. As it is referred to in some sections of the text, today sustainability is applied in an incomplete, misunderstood or fractioned way, without realizing integral projects that encompass all the problems and try to solve in a general way. It is a proposal that seeks social inclusion through sustainable actions to eliminate fragments of city that deteriorate the urban image and quality of life. Through a reflection on what has been done in this respect in the area of sustainable cities, there is a rethinking that aims to set a pattern for interventions to present cities and the development of cities of the future. Focusing the analysis mainly on the cities of Latin America and the Caribbean emphasizes the conditions of these sites, the growth of population and marginal cities with little regulation and problems in different areas.
